The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Statistical analysis of the examination outcomes reveals that a significant proportion of the 1,955,069 candidates who participated in the 2025 UTME, specifically over 1.5 million individuals, achieved scores below the 200 mark.

Data released by JAMB on Monday provides a detailed breakdown of candidate performance. The statistics indicate that only 420,415 candidates attained scores exceeding 200 in the 2025 UTME. Notably, 75% of the total candidate population recorded scores below 200, with less than 1% demonstrating exceptional performance by scoring above 300.

In an accompanying statement, JAMB highlighted the participation of 40,247 underage candidates who were granted the opportunity to exhibit their aptitude. However, preliminary analysis shows that only 467 of these candidates (1.16%) achieved scores meeting the defined threshold for exceptional ability within the UTME framework. Their performance in subsequent evaluation stages remains pending.

The 2025 UTME commenced on Thursday, April 24th. This report from DAILY CYCLE outlines the official procedures for candidates to access their examination results via the designated website and SMS channels. The step-by-step instructions are detailed below:

Procedure for Checking 2025 UTME Results:

Via the JAMB eFacility Portal:

Navigate to the Official Portal: Access the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s eFacility portal through a web browser at https://efacility.jamb.gov.ng/login.

Authenticate Login Credentials: Input the registered email address and corresponding password used during the UTME registration process.

Retrieve Examination Scores: Upon successful login, select the “Check UTME Results” option. The individual subject scores obtained in the examination will be displayed on the interface.

Via SMS Platform:

Open Messaging Application: Open the text messaging application on a mobile device.

Type-in Result Inquiry: Create a new message containing the keyword “RESULT” (in uppercase letters) followed by the candidate’s JAMB Registration Number.

Transmit SMS Request: Send the composed message to either the designated shortcode 55019 or 66019, the official JAMB result inquiry numbers.

Receive Score Notification: JAMB will subsequently deliver an SMS reply containing the candidate’s UTME scores for each subject.

Applicable Service Fee: Please note that this service incurs a charge of N50, which will be deducted from the subscriber’s mobile airtime balance.

Key Considerations and Implications:

Overall Candidate Performance: The data indicates a significant concentration of scores below the 200 mark, warranting further analysis into potential contributing factors such as candidate preparedness, examination difficulty, and educational foundational strength.

Assessment of Underage Candidates: The limited number of underage candidates meeting the exceptional ability threshold suggests that while early participation is permitted, achieving high levels of performance in the UTME remains a demanding task, even for potentially gifted younger students.

Result Accessibility Infrastructure: JAMB has established accessible mechanisms for result retrieval through both its online portal and mobile SMS services, ensuring broad reach for candidates across diverse technological access levels.

Cost of SMS Inquiry: The nominal fee associated with the SMS result checking service is a factor for candidates to consider when choosing their preferred method of access.

The 2025 UTME result statistics provide an initial overview of candidate performance. Further scrutiny by educational analysts and stakeholders will be crucial in understanding the underlying trends and their implications for tertiary admissions and the broader educational landscape.
